There may be many containers that can be used for temporary storage of liquid nitrogen, but only ln2 containers can be used for long-term storage of liquid nitrogen!

Other containers, such as foam boxes, metal basins, and gel barrels, can only provide liquid nitrogen storage for a short period of time, providing a “place” for samples or industrial accessories to quickly cool down. The ln2 container can store liquid nitrogen for a certain period of time, 3 months, 2 month, or longer. The reason is that the liquid nitrogen container has a heat preservation design, while other containers do not.

How is the Ln2 container insulated?

Its thermal insulation is divided into two parts: 1. Vacuum, 2. Insulation, both of which work together!

Vacuum refers to the vacuum between the inner and outer bladders of the ln2 container and within the upper and lower heads to prevent air from entering and no contact with heat.

At the same time, insulation and adsorption materials are filled between the inner tank and the outer tank to achieve the effects of external insulation + adsorption, and internal adsorption and heat preservation. The heat of the air in contact with the outer wall of the container is absorbed, and the low temperature of liquid nitrogen transmitted by the inner wall is also absorbed. They are separated by insulating materials in a vacuum environment. The heat of the outer wall cannot be transferred to the inner tank, and the cold air from the inner tank will not be transmitted to the outer tank.

This is also the reason why the -196°C cryogenic liquid nitrogen inside the ln2 container does not frost on the outer wall and does not feel cool to the touch.

In addition, since the ln2 container is an open-top design, liquid nitrogen and samples need to be put in and out. It is not enough to just vacuum and insulate the tank body. Heat will also enter through the opening. To avoid the impact of openings, manufacturers add a neck plug to the top of the container. The neck plug is made of polyurethane, which can insulate and retain heat. It covers the opening, which not only prevents debris from falling, but also plays an important role in thermal insulation. It “blocks” the heat from entering uniformly from top to bottom to achieve heat preservation.

Of course, in order to ensure safety, the neck plug is designed to be relatively loose, and an exhaust port is left. However, the exhaust port has little impact on the insulation effect. It is more to prevent the volatile liquid nitrogen in the ln2 container from dissipating and turning into pressure, causing danger. .
