How long can a small liquid nitrogen tank be stored without samples?

2024-05-08 09:22:17

Whether it is animal husbandry or scientific research experiments, no matter the size of the liquid nitrogen tank, it must be filled with liquid nitrogen before use;

And we also face the problem that liquid nitrogen will gradually run out, but with different usage methods, the capacity of the selected liquid nitrogen container is different, the storage time of liquid nitrogen is different, and the rehydration time and rehydration reference are also different. For example, for larger-capacity liquid nitrogen tanks used for semen and cell storage, the storage time of liquid nitrogen cannot be equal to the static storage time given by the manufacturer, but is based on the height of the sample as a reference.

What if you don’t install samples?

How long can a portable small liquid nitrogen tank like 6 liters or 10 liters be stored without samples?

Can the storage time of the liquid nitrogen tank used in this way be equal to the static storage time given by the manufacturer?

Of course they are not 100% equivalent!

How long it can be stored depends first on the specific capacity and caliber, and secondly on whether the lid is opened during storage, how long and how often it is opened!

Let’s talk about capacity and caliber first.

The rule of use of liquid nitrogen containers is that under the same capacity, the larger the diameter, the faster it evaporates. Of course, this is also true for small liquid nitrogen tanks!

Taking YDS-10 as an example, the calibers are 50mm, 80mm, 125mm and 210mm. The 50mm caliber has a static storage time of 87 days, the 80mm has a static storage time of 50 days, the 125mm has only 25 days, and the 210mm has only 11 days.

These are only the static storage times given by the manufacturer, that is, the time it can be stored without opening or using only liquid nitrogen without placing the sample.

Besides, the duration and frequency of opening the lid

If your small liquid nitrogen tank is only used for liquid nitrogen storage and does not contain samples and is not opened for use, its storage time can refer to the static storage time given by the manufacturer. The reason why it is a reference rather than an equivalent is that the storage time of liquid nitrogen will be affected by the ambient temperature.

However, if you want to open it for use, such as making liquid nitrogen delicacies or beauty treatments, you need to take liquid nitrogen from the container. In this case, due to the different frequency of use of each person, the time of stay is also different each time it is opened, and the accurate storage time cannot be given. You can check the liquid level regularly by yourself to see how long it takes from when your small liquid nitrogen tank is full to when the liquid nitrogen is used up.
